CAT-APULT

The CAT-APULT is a treat launcher for your pets. Simply load a treat, pull back and watch it fly over 20 feet.

Project Brief
For this project, I was tasked with creating a treat launcher using only 3D printed materials. I started out by making a couple pages of sketches as well as researching existing spring mechanisms that could be 3D printed. I decided upon this design because it was sturdy and worked well. It looked like a mailbox so i went with a mail theme.

High-Fidelity ModelI printed out my model into 3 different pieces, a base, a cover plate, and the spring itself. I printed the spring out of PLA with 0% infill and used only walls so that the spring retains the flexibility inherent in the material. I printed the launcher out of white filament and spray painted it. The parts fit together without needing any glue

In UseThe launcher worked pretty well and was sturdy enough to launch a treat over twenty feet. A problem i ran into was the treat would sometimes fall into the front of the spring. The center triangular mounting post is also a potential shear point as the spring is pulled back.
